BIOGRAPHY
Dora Tomic (lives and works in Cologne) is a Croatian-born composer and sound artist whose work focuses on experimental sound, audiovisual installation and immersive audio. Through her sound art installations and live performances she seeks to expand physical space by exploring new dimensions of immersive spatial sound and pushing the boundaries of her sound art environments.
Her sound works exist at the intersection of experimental Ambisonics soundscapes and organic and synthetic textures. The resulting atmospheric audiovisual experiences guide audiences through evolving and unfamiliar sonic landscapes.
She establishes herself as a multifaceted audiovisual artist whose work brings sound, space, and image into close dialogue. Her artistic practice has received multiple awards, grants, and funding support. In her ongoing artistic development, she aims to establish immersive audiovisual performances as an independent artistic form within the sound art landscape.
ABOUT HER WORK
Dora’s work explores the evolving dynamics and transformations that emerge through the interplay of diverse sonic and visual textures within complex artistic compositions. Her practice brings together organic soundscapes and freely improvised synthetic textures, questioning the relationship between seemingly incompatible elements while challenging established listening concepts and conventional modes of perception.
Her theoretical and artistic research focuses on psychoacoustics, electroacoustic music, and immersive sound design. Through her practice, Dora investigates immersive sound and audiovisual installation as mediums of artistic expression and social reflection, contributing to the advancement of both their theoretical discourse and creative application.
